Cultural Forum “CULTURE AND UNESCO”
Cultural Forum „CULTURE AND UNESCO: HOW DO WE IMPLEMENT PROMISSES TO OURSELVES AND THE WORLD“ initiated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, took place on February 11, 2021. Participants – responsible managers of Lithuanian world heritage sites acknowledged the scope of problems in the field of management and lack of interinstitutional cooperation.
The Lithuanian National Commission for Cultural Heritage presented their initiative to prepare the Law on the Protection of UNESCO World Heritage of Lithuania. The Mayor of the capital emphasized the controversial efforts to recreate the buildings destroyed after the WWII. The head of the Agency expressed the satisfaction that the Agency is the only institution in Lithuania which implements main provisions of UNESCO World Heritage Convention for 20 years.
The Forum encouraged a critical analysis and improvement of UNESCO heritage protection; and continuation of the dialogue between the community, specialists and responsible officials in order to strengthen the relevant care of the most significant Lithuanian heritage.
