We invite Vilnius citizens and guests to enjoy an active and inspiring fresh air walk in a very special and still undiscovered place – Kalnu Park.
Do you know where is the supposed location of the legendary dream of the Grand Duke Gediminas about iron wolf? There he had a dream; and there the first wooden Vilnius town was developed. These hills (Kalnų parkas) is our Akropolis (ancient Greek: ἀκρόπολις) – the citadel built upon a hill.
Ancient cities always were built in suitable for defense areas, difficult to access for enemies. Kalnu Parkas is not easy to access even today; but it is worth to try to discover its secret beauty.
The Concerts‘ stage was built in Vingio Park according to the project of Estonian architect in 1960; The amphitheater in Kalnų Parkas was built for the Songs Festival in 1970. Main concerts of the March of Rock (Rock music festival) were held also on this stage in 1987 and 1989. Now the amphitheater of Kalnų Parkas is under renovation for the upcoming Baltic students‘ festival of songs and dances Gaudeamus“ which will take place in 2021.
If you want to feel the spirit of Vilnius Old Town, – have a birds‘ eye view from the hills of Three Crosses, Stalo and Altana. You would realize exceptional value of Vilnius cityscape which medieval urban network is surrounded by green hills and valleys. The silhouette of the city is enriched with baroque towers and domes of churches, also modern high-rise buildings on the right bank of river Neris.
