Music is similar to weaving

We address our joyful and warmest Congrats to Lithuanian composer Egidija Medekšaitė, the Global Music Award’s gold winner for her outstanding composition „Malakosha“. This unusual music was inspired and created following textile weaving principles. The composer has a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Composition at Durham University (UK). She investigated how textile is related with songs and emotions in various cultures. The composer said she was enthused by Sutartinės, Lithuanian multipart singing tradition inscribed on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.

This Global award case is an excellent reason to reapproach and promote Vilnius’ Traditional City Crafts Programme focused at analysis, revitalisation and contemporary development of city‘s craftsmanship. One of the Program participants is a textile gallery „Jurate EU“ – welcome to see demonstration of weaving craft in a short video
