OWHC Workshop “Culture and Technology“
The Organisation of World Heritage Cities organises a new series of workshops On the Road to Quebec inspired by the 16th OWHC World Congress’s theme and the current global crisis.
On February 11, a first workshop „Culture and Technology“ was held. Introduction was done by Professor Michael Turner, UNESCO Chair in Urban Design and Conservation at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. He emphasized that the virtual space significantly increased, and it is like a digital revolution.
Robert Piaskowski, the adviser to the Mayor of Krakow, presented the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis. City museums, theatres and festivals were closed during the pandemic, but new technologies have helped organizations to reach out to the public. Digital festivals and other events were organised in 2020, and the number of participants increased 3 – 5 times to compare with the year 2019.
Monika Gottler, representative of Regensburg, presented the interactive webpage of UNESCO World Heritage Visitors Centre in Regesburg and other creative ideas for culture: the art on advertising pillars and special mobile applications which helped artists to cope with the crisis.
