Capacity Building Seminar on Heritage Interpretation

To explore heritage interpretation in practice, Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency together with Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO organized the first ever seminar about this topic in Lithuania. The seminar took place from 20th to 22nd November, at the Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency. It was designed to meet the needs of planners and managers working at or collaborating with UNESCO designated areas or other (cultural and/or natural) heritage sites. Valya Stergioti, an interpretive consultant, planner and trainer was facilitating all training activities. The seminar’s training methodology was based on the principles used by Interpret Europe – the European Association on Heritage Interpretation throughout its certification courses: a plethora of hands-on activities, based on real life examples and practice on participants’ own experiences and sites.
14 managers from Lithuanian world heritage sites took part: Kernave State Cultural Reserve, Curonian Spit National Park, Public Enterprise „Kaunas IN“, Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency, plus Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO  “Man and the Biosphere Programme”). They all have got Certificates of Attendance (27 academic hours).
