Presentation of A. Sutzkever’s book “From the Vilna Ghetto to Nuremberg. Memoir and Testimony”

Presentation of Avrom Sutzkever’s book “From the Vilna Ghetto to Nuremberg. Memoir and Testimony” took place at Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency on Tuesday, February 11, at 5:00 PM. It was organised in collaboration with the Judaica Research Center of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. The presentation followed by a discussion with its editor Prof. Justin D. Cammy, a scholar of Jewish studies and comparative literature at Smith College (Massachusetts, USA). The book’s translator into Lithuanian, Saulė Valiūnaitė, a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of History, Vilnius University, and the head of the Judaica Research Center at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania Dr. Lara Lempertienė also participated in the event, which was moderated by Dr. Neringa Latvytė.
Avrom Sutzkever was one of the most prominent Yiddish poets, renowned in the literary world for his exceptional talent, sensitivity, and historical insight. He pursued his mission under the most difficult circumstances—inside the Vilna Ghetto, where daily life was marked by death and suffering. His poetry was not only an artistic testimony but also a source of inner strength, both for himself and for his fellow ghetto prisoners.
