Challenges of Heritage Preservation in the Region of the Former Grand Duchy of Lithuania

April 17 | 11:00 | Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency |
On the occasion of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, marked this year under the theme “Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts”, the Agency, in collaboration with the Belarusian-Jewish Cultural Heritage Center, ICOMOS Belarus, and European Humanities University, invites you to a public event focused on resilience and preservation strategies for heritage across the historic lands of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The event brings together international experts to reflect on the realities of working with cultural heritage amid current challenges and regional instability.
Highlight of the program will be the presentation of the VR reconstruction of the Great Synagogue of Wolpa — considered one of the most beautiful wooden synagogues in Europe, destroyed during WWII and now digitally revived through a year-long, cross-disciplinary collaboration. Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the reconstruction through VR headsets onsite, walking through the synagogue in an immersive virtual tour.
Join us to explore how technology, historical research, and civic responsibility can intersect to preserve endangered memory — and to experience this lost heritage firsthand in virtual reality.
