Most valuable and visited architectural ensembles of Vilnius Old Town – churches of St. Anne and Bernardines’, Franciscan, St. Nicholas, Bonifratres and Evangelical Reformed churches, orthodox churches of Theotocos and St. Nicholas are shaded by old, spontaneous and partly neglected trees. It is visible from historical photos and pictures that architecture of buildings dominated in historic city centre at the 19th. c.; single trees near buildings were maintained and replanted.
Agency started a discussion among specialists regarding green areas in historic environment on March of 2017. Representatives of the Municipality, State Cultural Reserve of Vilnius Castles, Association of Lithuanian Landscape Architects, Society of Lithuanian Geographers and others presented their opinions and proposals. The second meeting took place on April. It was decided that it is necessary to start systematic management of green areas in Vilnius historic centre: to create a working group, to prepare the special regulations, etc.
The Agency seeks that the status of green areas around important architectural monuments would be improved during March – April of 2018. We shall inform local communities on the ongoing activities and also invite some volunteers for the improvement works.
