Representative of UNESCO World Heritage Centre Dr. Ron Van Oers informed us, that it will be suggested to renew Recommendations on Historic Urban Landscapes during the General Conference of UNESCO. If the suggestion would be approved during the Conference, the renewal process of the Recommendations would start, and it should answer critical challenges regarding interaction between urban conservation and development. Here you can find the presentation of Dr. Ron Van Oers “Sleeping with the Enemy. Private Sector Involvement in World Heritage Preservation” which was presented in September, 2009 during the Conference of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) in Quito, Ecuador.

Dr. Van Oers participated and gave a presentation during Vilnius Regional Seminar “High-rise Buildings and Historic City Centre” in December, 2006, where urban conservation experts from Riga and Tallinn also took part. Consequently during the renewal of Recommendations Dr. Van Oers plans series of visits to historic towns with regard to the Historic Urban Landscape, including Vilnius City.
