Excursions and lectures in 2009

The Old Town Information Centre implements training and educational programmes (lectures and excursions) for schoolchildren of various age groups introducing cultural traditions, architectural distinctiveness and values of Vilnius Old Town. There are 8 thematic walks in the Old Town prepared and described in the leaflet “Program of Study Tours for Youth”. For pupils of Vilnius schools from 1st to 5th classes the excursions are organised free of charge, and for pupils of 6th – 12th classes the price is from 50 LTL to 100 LTL. For pupils from other Lithuanian cities and towns excursions are organised free of charge if they come as a group accompanied by their teacher. All groups of schoolchildren must register at least one week before the excursion.

Project „Educational Programme on Cultural Heritage for Schoolchildren” was implemented in September – December of 2008, and it was supported by the Cultural Support Fund of the Republic of Lithuania. In 2009 educational programme continues under the name “Millenium Heritage: the Old Town and the Youth”, and it is also supported by the Cultural Support Fund of the Republic of Lithuania. The programme consists of lectures and excursions on archaeology, history of architecture, and cultural traditions of various ethnic groups living in Vilnius. Traditional crafts also will be presented during the programme, including practical works in the workshops of craftsmen.

Visitors from abroad can also register for an excursion through Vilnius Old Town. The guide will be a specialist of architecture and heritage conservation, and can speak on Vilnius Old Town revitalisation issues. Excursion of 1,5 hour in English language cost 170 LTL (50 euros), and the lecture on Vilnius Old Town Revitalisation – 200 LTL (58 euros).
